In addition to receiving full tuition and stipend support, all students in the HMS OGE PhD Programs are eligible for the following benefits through the Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Office for Graduate Education. The list here is to highlight the many resources that are available to you as a graduate student.

 

Financial Aid


Tuition & Stipend

All students, regardless of citizenship, that matriculate to one of the OGE PhD Programs are fully funded while registered and in good standing as a full-time graduate student in Harvard Griffin GSAS. For the 2025-2026 academic year, the total stipend compensation of $51,500 over 12 months includes:

  • $50,460/year stipend ($4,205/month average)
  • $1,040 subsidy to cover dental insurance, if elected, and transportation costs
  • Dental subsidy paid on September 1, transportation subsidy paid in two installments at the start of each semester
     

Health Insurance

Students are eligible to enroll in the Harvard University Student Health Plan (HUSHP). Students are not responsible for paying the yearly health fee.


Relocation Allowance

Upon matriculation to the OGE PhD Programs, all students are given a one-time $1,000 relocation allowance.

Family Benefits


OGE PhD Childcare Scholarship

OGE PhD students with children may apply for additional support from the OGE PhD Child Care Scholarship. These funds are paid out twice a year for a maximum of five years.


Parental Accommodations and Financial Support

Students enrolled in PhD programs at Harvard Griffin GSAS who are expecting a child either by adoption or childbirth are eligible for the PAFS program.

 

Graduate Student Union

The Harvard Graduate Student Union manages a number of benefit funds for eligible students. For more information please see the HGSU website

 

Emergency Support


Harvard Griffin GSAS Hardship Fund

At the Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, we understand that an emergency can cause significant stress and uncertainty, impacting your academic success and personal well-being. Students who experience financial hardship as the result of an emergency are encouraged to connect with the Office of Financial Aid. The financial aid staff can provide guidance and advice in navigating available resources.
